The author used bluehost.com first and then added arvixe.com for GNU/Linux-based web host services. When the BlueHost account came up for renewal, he transferred it to Arvixe as they seemed to have the same offerings, but at half the price (until renewal came up in 2018, when they doubled their rates). When the rates doubled, the account was set to disable auto-renewal, and a VirMach account was opened with a pretty sweet recurring Black Friday discount that more than halved the annual cost again.
Support from Arvixe was usually good and responsive, but in later years, no support was needed. At the time the account was closed, Arvixe support was very bad. Though the account was set not to renew, and even though all domains had been transferred out of the account, they attempted to charge the account anyway! Many attempts to read them were made, but both the ticket interface for billing/account issues were broken for weeks, and it was impossible to live chat any more. I can no longer recommend Arvixe.
A very inexpensive VirMach VPS was set up Thanksgiving, 2017 by way of an exceptional black friday deal. Since the VPS experience was positive, it appeared that VirMach would suitably host bulgrien.net, so, Thanksgiving, 2018 black friday deals were sought, and both bulgrien.net and bestiecookie.com were transferred. In fact, two hosting accounts were obtained at less than half the cost of the one Arvixe account! Both were obtained under recurring discount deals.
Why Choose Arvixe or BlueHost?
- Offer both Postgresql and MySQL; This was nice because it let the author learn about MySQL even though all his experience was with Postgresql.
- More reasons later...
- Nevermind, don't. Arvixe doubled their rates, and support quality has plummeted.
Why Choose Virmach?
They have great Black Friday deals with "recurring" low-cost services.
